MESSAGE FROM THE CHAIRMAN
WELCOME TO THE GHLOBE
Ghanaians living in communities across the globe, along with our descendants, are some of the most patriotic people on the planet. Our love for Ghana shows up in everything we do, whether in our unconditional love for the Black Stars or our emotional reactions to negative developments from and about Ghana. Although not the second most populous African Diaspora, the size of our remittances to Ghana is second only to Nigeria, a feat that underscores our commitment to our nation’s developmental aspirations.
Unfortunately, from statutory exclusions from participation in certain capacities to a regretful failure to implement the Representation of the People Amendment Law (ROPAL), the nation we love routinely shows us in many ways that our financial support is welcomed and appreciated, but we are not. But as we blame our brothers and sisters back home for what we believe to be paradigm-influenced anti-Diaspora sentiments, we must also acknowledge not only our fragmented engagements with authorities in Ghana but the many examples of our condescending behavior during our visits home.
It is against this introspective backdrop that we have come together to form the Ghlobal Diaspora Council to build a global network of Ghanaian communities. We will develop a horizontal organization and position it to consolidate our efforts as we encourage members of our communities to adopt the mantra of giving others the respect we expect from them.
I am honored to lead this organization of outstanding Ghanaian leaders from across the globe with unparalleled commitment to Ghana’s prosperity. Together, we will forge more functional and cooperative relationships with stakeholders in Ghana and elsewhere for Ghana’s advancement, and we extend a friendly arm to Ghanaians across the globe to join the “Mission Ghana” Campaign.
GHLOBAL DIASPORA GENERAL ASSEMBLY
NINE-MEMBER GHLOBAL STEERING COMMITTEE
GHLOBAL REPRESENTATIVES
Ghlobal Country Representatives, as our first community contacts, were each highly recommended by a minimum of three community leaders during their vetting process. Country Representatives are Ghlobal’s conduit to reach organized leadership of the Ghanaian communities in their country of domicile.
GHLOBAL DELEGATES
The number of Ghlobal Country Delegates per country is designated via a fair formula that factors in a fair estimate of the size of the Ghanaian community in that country. Armed with that number, it is the responsibility of the Ghlobal Country Representative to distribute the assigned slots to the relevant community leaders.
COMMUNITY LEADERS
The Ghlobal Diaspora Council trusts our Country Representatives to ensure that the number of delegates allocated to their respective countries are given to diverse community leaders. Ghlobal means no slight to hard working community leaders who do not make the selection into the Ghlobal General Assembly.
YOUTH LEADERS
The Ghlobal Diaspora Council is particularly interested in the affairs of the subsequent Ghanaian generations in the Diaspora. As Ghanaians do exemplary work of inculcating our cultures and traditions in generations that follow them, it is important that we rope those young Ghanaians into the affairs of Ghana.
OUR NEUTRALITY CREED
The Ghlobal Diaspora Council welcomes all Ghanaians in the Diaspora and works with all Ghanaians back home regardless of ethnicity, religion, and political affiliation.
GHLOBAL DIASPORA COUNCIL
Linking Ghanaian Communities Across The Globe
Vision
We envision a Ghana where the roughly 10% of her population living abroad would be fully recognized as an integral part of the country’s developmental agenda.
Mission
To use our global network of communities to form a consultative block to constructively engage stakeholders in Ghana and abroad for the purpose of advancing Ghana’s development.
